Acid Copper Current Density and Burning Defects

How current distribution and bath conditions affect acid copper smoothness and coverage.

Acid Copper Current Density and Burning Defects

Read the location of the defect

Burning often appears at edges, corners, holes and other high-current-density areas. Map the defect location before adjusting the process.

Review the whole operating window

Temperature, chloride, organic additives, filtration and anode condition can change the deposit. Use the bath analysis together with the electrical data.

Run a controlled test

Calculate the actual plated area, verify current, and test one correction at a time within the operating window specified for your system.

Technical note: Operating ranges and additive doses depend on the installed chemistry, equipment and production load. Use the supplier data sheet, bath analysis and approved safety procedures.
