Why Electrophoretic Lacquer Yellows and What to Check

A practical checklist for electrophoretic lacquer yellowing, covering curing temperature and time, film thickness, contamination and rinsing.

Why Electrophoretic Lacquer Yellows and What to Check

Confirm when the color changed

Compare the part before coating, after deposition and after curing. This separates a substrate or plating color issue from a lacquer bath or oven issue.

Review curing and film build

Excessive metal temperature, extended curing time or excessive film thickness can contribute to color change. Measure the actual part temperature and film thickness rather than relying only on equipment settings.

Check bath cleanliness and rinsing

Contamination, drag-in and weak rinsing can affect clarity and color. Review bath analysis, filtration, rinse quality and recent process changes before making additions.

Technical note: Operating ranges and additive doses depend on the installed chemistry, equipment and production load. Use the supplier data sheet, bath analysis and approved safety procedures.
